Therapy 101

Starting therapy can be scary.

You can do it and we will be here to help along the way.

Starting Place…

You’ve decided you want to do therapy but aren’t 100% sure where to start.

First, check out our therapists to see who you may prefer. Sometimes, clients don’t have a preference and that’s completely okay as well. Keep in mind your preferred therapist may not be the best fit after you communicate with them (due to scheduling, availability, etc.) but if that’s the case, they will help you find a good fit, whether it’s in our practice or another.

Check to see if we take your insurance. If you want to make sure we are in network or see how much you may pay, call the Customer Service number on the back of your card.

Submit a contact form here or give us a call and we will follow-up ASAP! (usually within 24 hours)

After you reach out…

We will reach out via your preferred method of contact within 24 hours & will set up a free, 10 minute consultation, an initial appointment or answer questions, based on what your contact form indicates.

If you and your therapist decide to work together, your therapist will put you into our system, schedule your initial appointment and will send you our initial documentation. This includes our practice policies, payment information and an initial questionnaire. Everything must be completed no later than 24 hours before your first session in order to continue with us.

Your first session…

Your first appointment will be an informational gathering appointment, where your therapist will want to know all the things you are willing to share about your life!

Something that can be helpful is to like about in preparation for the session is: What does life look like if therapy “works?” How would you feel different? What would look different in life? This can be really helpful to your therapist to understand exactly where you want to go!

If you have any questions about therapy, bring them! This is the start of the collaboration and your therapist would love to hear your questions, concerns, worries, all the things!

After that…

In our practice, sessions are collaborative! You can bring what you’d like to talk about each session, or can honestly share if you have no idea. Your therapist can help guide you when you need it.

In sessions, we want you to be physically comfortable. If you are in person, we have water and other drinks available, snacks if you’re hungry. If you are home, throw on your comfiest clothes and get cozy! Your brain needs to feel as safe as possible and it’s important to give yourself the opportunity to fully relax during sessions.

If you are coming to our office, we have a community library, bring any books you may want to trade or take a look and grab one of ours.

FAQs

  • In the same way your doctor’s office works, we submit claims (bills) for each session to your insurance. Most insurances take 2-3 weeks to return a claim, and upon return there’s a few different options you could have, depending on your insurance.

    • If you haven’t met your deductible, you will be responsible for the full charge of the session.

    • If you have a Co-Pay, the card you have on file with us will be charged.
*Important note: you must have a credit card on file before to your first session to still be seen.

    • Sometimes clients don’t pay anything!

  • The answer differs from client to client, but almost always, therapists will see the progress before you do. This is because most clients have their eyes on the main goal, and until that is reached, progress can feel hard to see. However, we, as therapists, see the smaller steps that get you closer to the goal. We will share that often in session, because it’s valuable to celebrate the wins along the way.

  • Our practice’s ultimate goal is to “graduate” clients. Despite the fact that we LOVE our clients and would love to work with them forever, that isn’t the goal. The goal is to have clients feel like they don’t need to come to session eventually, because their goals have been met. Often, goals change and evolve from the initial ones. Graduation looks like a discussion about readiness that you get to lead and decide. We ALWAYS welcome clients back (if availability allows) so if you graduate and later find more you’d like help working through, our door is always open.

It is a honor & a privilege to be a therapist!

“You aren’t like other therapists I’ve had where they tell me everything is going to be okay and validate me over and over again. You ask me questions, you make me think harder and I can tell you genuinely want the best for me.”

-Former Client

“You guys have magic here. I’m not sure how you do it. I’ve never been somewhere where from the second I walk in the door, I feel wanted, like you actually want me here. Every detail has been thought of.”

-Former Client

“You help me see myself in a way I’ve never done before. I feel like I used to only focus on everything I was “bad at,” and now I can see that I’ve been too hard on myself, for far too long. I’m a lot stronger than I ever realized.”
